Southern Appalachian Dulcimer Festival

Southern Appalachian Dulcimer Festival

Presented by Southern Appalachian Dulcimer Association at Tannehill Ironworks Historical State Park

49th annual festival at Tannehill State Park featuring Joe Collins and New Harmony Dulcimers.

We will be holding our 49th annual festival at Tannehill state park in McCalla, Alabama this year. Jams occur during the week prior to the festival in the campground, usually, an afternoon jam and an evening jam, and the schoolhouse should be available at night if the pandemic allows. Official activities begin on Thursday with paid classes provided by Joe Collins, a supper at the Kiwanis Pavilion, then music jams afterward.  All acoustic instruments are welcome. No sound systems or amplification of instruments allowed other than those provided by the sponsoring club.

Friday morning and afternoon are Gazebo performances at the Gazebo –

Friday night will be the potluck supper at the Event Center (health situation may change this), and of course jamming afterward in the Kiwanis Pavilion, Event center, and schoolhouse. Saturday groups will perform at the Gazebo and will have a beginning dulcimer class from 9-10:25 at the Kiwanis and an intermediate class from 10:30 – noon. Hammered dulcimer classes will be at the schoolhouse taught by Don Hill at the Schoolhouse. Joe Collins and Jan Hammond will be teaching dulcimer classes at the Event Center.

Saturday lunch: the park is bringing in vendors to provide lunches at the park on Saturdays. We should know about 1-2 weeks prior to the festival who they are bringing in.

Saturday afternoon is an open stage at the Kiwanis Pavilion.

Sunday morning is our church service at the schoolhouse at 9am.
