Madame Alexander & Effanbee Doll Auction

Madame Alexander & Effanbee Doll Auction

Presented by Alzheimer's Association at The Oaks on Parkwood Nursing Home

Valerie Kernan’s mother, JoAnn Kernan, started collecting Madame Alexander and Effanbee dolls for her daughter when she was born in 1980. Collecting the dolls became a hobby for her mother. JoAnn had an entire room with built-in shelves dedicated to her collection. JoAnn ultimately bought the dolls as an investment for her children.

At the age of 58, JoAnn was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer’s Disease. Valerie took care of her mother for five years, but eventually she could not provide the care her loved one needed.  JoAnn now resides at the Oaks on Parkwood Nursing Home.

Valerie is holding a Madame Alexander and Effanbee dolls silent auction and sale event to honor her mother. The event will feature over 250 dolls and will be held at The Oaks on Parkwood (Noland Hall). It will take place Saturday, June 18 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.

All proceeds from the auction will go to the Alzheimer’s Association in JoAnn’s honor. This is an amazing and honorable event that many people can enjoy. Valerie has been gracious enough to share her mother’s love for Madame Alexander and Effanbee dolls with the people of Birmingham. Please come out to honor JoAnn and others who have suffered from this disease.
