Cahaba Lily Festival

Cahaba Lily Festival

Presented by West Blocton Improvement Committee at Cahaba Lily Center

The Cahaba Lily Festival is held on the third Saturday in May each year in West Blocton, Alabama. This annual festival celebrates the unique Cahaba Lily that grows in the nearby Cahaba River. It also aims to bring attention to the beauty all around us and our need for careful stewardship.

The Still-Not-Yet-Back-To-Normal Edition for 2022 will be a two-part festival. There will be an online livestream with Dr. Larry J. Davenport, the foremost authority on the Cahaba Lily on Saturday, May 21, at 9:10am. You will also receive updates from partner groups about what is being done in Alabama to protect habitats such as those enjoyed by the beautiful Cahaba Lilies.

Then see the Lilies at your convenience. Plan a trip to the Cahaba River National Wildlife Refuge to experience the beauty of this rare plant. The refuge is open every day, so pick a day that works for you. Or, plan your day trip around events happening near the refuge. The best time for viewing the lilies can vary from year to year. Typically mid-to-late May is ideal, but water level and other factors can affect the start of blooming. Watch our Facebook page for updates on how the lilies are progressing through the month of May.
