AshaKiran 2 Day Language Advocacy Workshop

Interpretation is an art and a skill acquired through extensive education, training, and experience. AshaKiran’s 2 day workshop will provide an overview of interpreter guidelines emphasizing accuracy, proficiency, confidentiality and neutrality. Participants will be provided an opportunity to learn and participate in exercises designed to improve interpreters’ consecutive, simultaneous, and sight translation skills, including a discussion of interpretation for the deaf and blind, and introduction to the legal profession. Participants will gain additional understanding of the court’s language access obligations under Title VI of the Civil Rights of 1964, including issues with interpreters and interpreting, accessibility for the deaf and blind, relevant laws related to language access under Alabama laws and Rules of Court, and provide a forum to discuss promising practices. $10 General Admission & $15 CLE (lunch included)

DAY TWO: Interpreter Ethics
Who should attend: Judges, court staff, attorneys, client advocates, law enforcement and other professionals who work with or advocate for Limited English Proficient (LEP) survivors. Administrative office of the courts certified & registered court interpreters, Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID), multilingual individuals, client advocates;
