Sleeping Beauty (Theatre for Youth)

Sleeping Beauty (Theatre for Youth)

Presented by Samford University at Harrison Theatre - Samford University

Once Upon a Time there were two magical sisters named Branwen and Modron. Branwen was generous and kind; Modron was selfish and cruel. The center of their conflict was an orphaned baby girl. Branwen chose the infant for the childless King Peredur and Queen Guinevere, but Modron wanted the girl for herself. Now, in a jealous rage, Modron casts a spell on the child: she will prick her finger on a spindle and die before her sixteenth birthday. Thus begins the story of Princess Briar Rose: Sleeping Beauty retold for the stage by Charles Way, one of the United Kingdom’s most renowned writers of plays for children. This classical tale, full of mythical creatures, relies on the strength of friendship and the power of family to overcome great odds.
