Be Gentle With Black Girls: How to Use A Mirror - Discussing Body Image and Black Childhood

Presented by Birmingham Public Library at North Birmingham Regional Library (BPL)

Tania De’Shawn’s new book of poetry, be gentle with black girls, addresses adultification bias, black femininity, body image, and the fragility of black girlhood. Hear a live reading from her debut book of poetry followed by a discussion about body image and its impact on black girlhood with co-panelist Shekinah Joy Lee, a pre-licensed professional, and NNC-certified counselor.

This program is free and open to the public. Discussions may be tough on matters not intended for children. Young adults and older are welcome. There will be a book signing and books for sale afterward. T-shirts will be for sale, too.
