OLLI of Greater Birmingham presents Alabama Governance, Legislation Politics & The Media.  October 5, Mr. Greg Canfield, State of Alabama Secretary of Commerce will describe what it takes to bring new business (or expand existing business) to Alabama, including incentives and the role of the communities.  October 12, State Senators Linda Coleman, Jabo Waggoner, and Cam Ward will describe Alabama senate structure, rules committee, and procedure.  The path of legislation, filibuster, and cloture and what it takes to pass legislation will be covered.  Also, prison reform legislation will be discussed.  October 19, Representatives Jim Carns, Merika Coleman-Evans, and Danny Garrett will describe the stucture and procedure in the State House of Representatives.  How a bill begins, how bills are amended, bills that require a super majority to pass, and the difference between resolutions and bills.  October 26, Journalists John Archibald and Barnett Wright will tell all about the politics and media in Alabama.
