Birmingham’s newest museum opened in April 2010 inside the historic Young & Vann building downtown on First Avenue North and 18th Street. Occupying more than 3,300 square feet of renovated gallery space, exhibits trace the area’s history from the city’s founding to the mid-20th Century through significant events in business, labor, medicine, leisure, wartime and entertainment. The museum evaluates and accepts donated historic artifacts and maintains a growing library of history books, photographs, historic maps and documents for public use. A new exhibit on businesses in operation 75 and longer is planned for late 2011.

Hours: Monday-Friday 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Admission: $4/adults $3/seniors $2/students. Children 6 and younger admitted free.
