 The Exchange Club Child Abuse Prevention Center is a non-profit 501 (c) 3 agency that has been serving the community for over 20 years. The Center’s Mission is “To act as the principal child abuse and neglect prevention agency providing education and support services for both parents and children in the Greater Birmingham Area”. 

The Exchange Club offers the following FREE services: 

  • Positive Parenting Groups 
    These are education/support groups which are open and ongoing. They meet weekly throughout the year, with the exception of holidays. These are best suited for parents who need more flexibility with their attendance. There are several classes for parents to choose from including one for parents of teens. These classes are open to the public. 
  • Parent Aide Program (PA)
    Home based parent education that matches a parent to a parent aide. Parent Aides serve parents of children ages birth to twelve (you must have custody of the child and he/she must live with you). Parent Aides work with families for about one year.
  • First Teacher Parents As Teachers (PAT)
    The First Teacher Program is a FREE  in home parent education and family support program utilizing the Parents as Teachers (PAT) curriculum. This program serves families throughout pregnancy until their child turns five (5) years of age and provides developmental, hearing and vision assessments.Parents are supported by PAT-certified parent educators. By understanding what to expect during each stage of development, parents can easily capture the teachable moments in everyday life to enhance their child’s language development, intellectual growth, social development and motor skills.

The Services below are fee based:

  • Adult Anger Management
    This program is an 8 week curriculum based course that is offered 5 times a year for adults 19 years old and older.   This group is designed to both develop and enhance strong, loving relationships between parents and their children. Parents learn to understand what causes anger and the problems that can result if you are unable to control it.  The group also helps parents learn ways to mange and express anger appropriately. 
  • Teen Anger Management Groups
    The Teen Anger Management Group is designed to educate and empower youth from ages 13-18 to deal with their anger, to use anger management and problem-solving skills, and to discover the coping skills they need to manage their anger appropriately. 
  • Speaker’s Bureau
    This is a service that provides seminars to civic organizations, church’s, youth groups, schools, daycare’s, social service agencies or other groups about various topics related to positive parenting skills, life skills and/or child abuse prevention. This service has a $50 honorarium for Jefferson County; outside Jefferson County $50 + mileage.
