Founded in 2021, EmpowerED Birmingham is a coalition of community members who are designing a blueprint for the future of education in the city. The coalition is guided by a planning team of 21 city leaders from 18 organizations, namely Birmingham Education Foundation, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Urban Impact, Black Alabamians for Education, Birmingham Business Alliance, Elevate Birmingham, Break Through Birmingham, Birmingham Urban League, Central Six Alabama Works, Greater Birmingham Arts Education Collaborative, Mothers Against All Violence in Schools, Alabama Aprende y Emprende, Greater Birmingham Ministries, Hispanic Interest Coalition of Alabama, Oak Tree Ministries, Sixth Avenue Baptist Church, and The Surge Project.
