The goal of the Gadsden Museum of Art is to support and maintain a museum of local history of the Gadsden and Etowah County area and to support and maintain a museum dedicated to Southern artists. An additional goal is to promote an appreciation for all types of visual arts for the enjoyment and understanding of its visitors.
GMA features works of Southern art and artists and houses an extensive permanent collection of paintings, sculptures, and prints. In addition, the museum hosts a series of changing exhibits featuring the works of local and regional artists.

The GMA also fosters an awareness and appreciation of local history through exhibiting artifacts, antique properties, furniture, photographs, decorative arts, and items of historical significance of the Gadsden and Etowah County area.

Perhaps the most unique feature of GMA, combining both art and history, is the Virtual Museum, open 24/7 in the windows of the businesses on Broad Street. By mounting an art exhibit of museum quality reproductions and exhibits in the glass store fronts of the main street of Gadsden, we make the city into a museum with an entrance at every intersection and our citizens already inside.

The museum is committed to the acquisition, collection, and preservation of paintings, sculptures, decorative arts, artifacts, and items of historical significance deemed worthy for view by the public. In addition the GMA collects, codifies, and disseminates historical information about the facts and myths of this area’s past and serves as a resource center for interested visitors and local citizens, as well as students and scholars.
