Centurion: Jus Fides Libertatum

This sculpture depicts a wounded warrior wearing nothing but a short cloth skirt and shows a wound on his left side. A shield and broken sword lie beside him. It was inspired by an older Greek sculpture exhibited at the Capitoline museum in Rome. The subtitle “Jus Fides LIbertatum” means “Law is a safegaurd of freedom.” The sculpture honors Jefferson County Law enforcement professionals who gave their lives in the line of duty. The names of officiers killed since 1889 appear on the sides of the granite base.
