Join us for a lecture with the High Museum of Art’s Margaret and Terry Stent Curator of American Art Stephanie Heydt, Ph.D., who will discuss the historical context and meaning found within Hale Woodruff’s murals.
Dr. Heydt joined the High Museum of Art in 2009. Before coming to the High, Stephanie was curator of collections at the Gulf Coast Museum of Art in Largo, Florida, and Research Associate in the American Art Department at the Harvard University Art Museums in Cambridge, Massachusetts. A graduate of Cornell University, Dr. Heydt received her Masters of Arts in Art History from the University of Chicago and her Ph.D. in Art History from Boston University. From 1995 until 2001 Stephanie worked in the Education and Curatorial departments at the Terra Museum of American Art (now the Terra Foundation for American Art) in Chicago. She has contributed to and authored numerous exhibition catalogues, including Rising Up: Hale Woodruff’s Murals at Talladega College and Go West! Art of the American Frontier from the Buffalo Bill Center of the West, and essay contributions for collection catalogues for the Crystal Bridges Museum of Art, the American Art Department at the Fogg Art Museum, and the Terra Foundation for American Art.
