Cahaba River Fry-Down

Cahaba River Fry-Down

Presented by Cahaba River Society at Railroad Park

The best amateur catfish fryers in Alabama will square off for the 6th Annual Cahaba River Fry-Down, a competitive catfish cooking contest to celebrate the Cahaba River, presented by Amerex to benefit Cahba River Society. The Fry-Down festival is October 11, 2015 from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Railroad Park in downtown Birmingham.

The Fry-Down is like a BBQ or chili cook-off, but with catfish. Fifteen local teams of enthusiastic chefs will prepare catfish, their choice of fixings and present the finished product to a panel of esteemed judges. Fest-goers have the opportunity to sample these masterpieces and cast their vote for crowd favorite.

This event isn’t just about the fish; it’s fun for the entire family. The Fry-Down has a festival-like atmosphere. Attendees will enjoy live music, as well as lots of activities for children of all ages. Adult fest-goers can experience the Fry-Down Beer Garden, presented by the Cahaba River Society Tributary Board, which will feature local craft beers.

All funds raised at this year’s Fry-Down will allow CRS to continue its mission to restore and protect Alabama’s longest remaining stretch of free-flowing river. Attendees will also learn about the many recreational opportunities available on the Cahaba River.

So come down, get down, and Fry-Down! The Fry-Down kicks off at 12:00 p.m. on October 11 at Railroad Park, across from Regions Field in downtown Birmingham.  A donation of $20 gains admission to the event, and children 12 and under get in for free.
