We’re pleased to announce open auditions for William Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet.”
Open to all actors or aspiring actors, ages 6-25. Preference in casting is given to actors under the age of 18.
Audition procedure:
Bring the following items with you to auditions:
- A memorized monologue. This monologue should be no shorter than 30 seconds, no longer than 3 minutes. Shakespeare is preferred but not required.
- A head shot. This doesn’t have to be a professional head shot, but needs to accurately represent what you look like.
- A resume. Highlight your acting and/or dancing experience, but please keep in mind that Bards of Birmingham does not require acting experience in order to be cast. A committed novice actor would be preferred over a lackluster experienced actor.
Actors will be called back one at a time to perform for audition judge(s). If casting decisions can’t be concluded with an initial round of auditions, actors may be asked to come back for a callback audition round which will include cold readings from the script.
Post-Audition:
- For every actor under 18, at least one parent must be present for a mandatory parent meeting on Wednesday, January 11, at 6:30 pm.
Rehearsals:
- Rehearsals will take place on Monday and Wednesday nights from 6-7:30, January-March, and every other Saturday afternoon until the month prior to performance, during which rehearsals will take place every Saturday as well. The play will run the weekends of April 7-9 and April 14-16.
