Desert Island Supply Company, located in Woodlawn, has been providing free creative writing workshops, both in Birmingham city schools and after school at their dreamy, nautical-themed HQ, since 2012. They have also hosted literary celebrations and reading series, amazing musical performances, and all kinds of other cultural and civic events, all for free, since their inception. In the Before Times, the Read-a-Thon was a 24-hour live and in-person event, and the biggest fundraiser of the year. This year will be different, but hopefully just as special.
