“All Saints for the City” free concert

First United Methodist Church and the Unitarian Universalist Church of Birmingham invite you to a memorial concert  and liturgy, “All Saints for the City.” Together, we’ll memorialize the lives of people in our community who have died from gun violence, domestic violence, members of the LGBTQ community, and others in the Birmingham area who died in the previous year. The event is free and open to the public.

The FUMC Choir, directed by Dr. Patrick Evans, and the UUCB Choir, directed by James Sullivan, will each sing part of the service, and then combine with orchestra at the conclusion for the Alabama premiere of Jake Runestad’s multi-movement work “Into the Light” for Chorus and Orchestra, with texts from the Bible, Martin Luther King, Jr., Hellen Keller, and others. The piece was commissioned and premiered in September of 2017 by Valparaiso University to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the Reformation.
