Introduction to Zills Workshop and Hafla with Khaleela

Join Khaleela, fresh from her trip to Egypt, as she teaches an introduction to zills, finger cymbals. Learn basic patterns that work with most rhythms as well as common Middle Eastern drum rhythms.

After the workshop, please feel free to stick around for the hafla. Hafla is the Arabic word for party. We’ll put on some music and dance. There will be dancers from all different styles to show you some moves and the goal is just to have a good time. If you want to perform a particular piece, just bring your music and we’ll make space for you. Dress however you like. Yoga clothing, ball gown, full costume, tiara, pajamas, etc. Whatever makes you happy.

September Reed will be providing henna for those that would like to get a design.

This event is for women only. We will have future ones that include the men as well but for now we want to create a safe and comfortable space for the ladies. Please no photos unless you have permission from the person you are photographing as well as the folks in the background.
