This event will feature a performance/reading from artist Jillian A. Fantin’s THE DOUGHNUT WORLD, a forthcoming poetry-play hybrid set on a confectionary toroid planetary body where much happens, yet also nothing. In addition to the reading, Jillian will facilitate a collaborative, interactive workshop exploring their somatic and (Soma)tic creative process, delving into their personal motivations for writing and their concepts of My Poetica poem and Jackass Poetics.
Jillian A. Fantin (they/them) is a contemporary court jester with roots in the American South and north central England. They hold an MFA in Creative Writing with a focus in Poetry and a graduate minor in Gender Studies from the University of Notre Dame. Jillian is the author of the prose poetry micro-chapbook A Playdough Symposium (Ghost City Press, 2023), the forthcoming full-length, hybrid poetry-play THE DOUGHNUT WORLD (fifth wheel press, 2024), and an undisclosed chapbook contracted with kith books. Alongside Alabama writer Joy Wilkoff, Jillian co-founded and edits RENESME LITERARY, a shortform Twilight-inspired online arts journal. Currently, Jillian serves as an assistant editor of Sundress Publications’ Best of The Net Anthology and a tutor in reading comprehension, essay writing, and elementary maths.
This event is free and open to the public. Burdock is located in the Quaker Meeting House with parking available in the backyard and on the street. Access to Burdock can be gained from the front porch, which is wheelchair accessible via a ramp starting in the backyard.
