Pray Away is a documentary film highlighting the harm and pain that many religious institutions have caused to the LGBTQIA+ community due to “conversion” therapy efforts and the trauma from those experiences.
Pray Away is a Netflix documentary that explores stories from former leaders and a survivor of the “conversion therapy” movement who speak out about its lasting harm and its devastating persistence. There will also be tables available with information and resources about local organizations and faith communities which support LGBTQIA+ individuals.
This event is being hosted by Central Alabama Pride, First Church Birmingham, Multitude Films, PFLAG Birmingham, Sidewalk Film Festival, and Woodlawn United Methodist Church.
