Revising Traditions in Antebellum Spaces

Join us for a reception and community conversation about Arlington Historic House and how to animate our shared history. Meet artists from Wideman Davis Dance and Robin Waites of Historic Columbia in Columbia, SC, to engage in dialog about an exciting dance project being developed for Arlington in partnership with the Birmingham community.
Migratuse Ataraxia shifts the rules of representation in antebellum domestic spaces to memorialize the lives of enslaved individuals through movement, technology, visual installations, and a curated dinner. Migratuse Ataraxia is a container for history and memory that revises the traditions of remembering in antebellum plantation homes. The installation is an exploration of the beginning stages of video and art content that will be developed for the project.
Wideman Davis Dance is presenting “Migratuse Ataraxia Video and Art Installation” on Friday, January 25, at Alabama School of Fine Arts Vulcan Materials Gallery as part of the Opening Reception and Gallery Performance at the Alabama Dance Festival.
