Southeastern Outings Dayhike in Lake Guntersville State Park

The hiking trails in Lake Guntersville State Park traverse moderate to difficult terrain and cover over 36 miles of park property. They are multi-use trails, serving as hiking, biking and horse trails. The trails are varied with some following alongside the banks of the Tennessee River, others leading to seasonal waterfalls and wildflowers, and some piquing your interest just by their name alone such as the Old Still Path and the Moonshine Trail.  Our hike February 22 will be moderately easy.

The trails we’ll hike differ in length from .5 miles to 3.5 miles yet connect with one another to form a loop of trails that add up to about 5.5 miles.  We’ll be hiking on trails which are relatively level or downhill nearly all of the time.  We’ll also be hiking right along the lake shore for part of the hike.  Pack a picnic lunch and head out for a day exploring the ridges, waterfalls and river in beautiful Lake Guntersville State Park.                                                                                               Bring a friend or several if you wish.  Well-behaved, carefully supervised children age 8 and up welcome.

Optional restaurant dinner after.  No charge for park admission.                                  Meet 9:45 a.m. at the Floor and Décor Store on Green Springs Highway.  We plan to depart from there at 10:00 a.m.

In front of the far left side (as you face the front of the store) of the old KMart building, now the newly opened Floor and Décor Store, between I-65 and Green Springs Highway just off Oxmoor Road in Homewood.  Next to the Burger King on Oxmoor Road.

Do you wish you had friends who share your active lifestyle and enjoyment of outdoor activities?  Then become active with Southeastern Outings (SEO), a nonprofit organization committed and created to serve people who enjoy being active in the outdoors.  The organization plans, organizes and leads outings such as dayhikes, easy kayak and canoe trips, stream and waterfall walks, bicycle rides, lake events and other fun activities to beautiful sites in our natural environment.  From time to time we also sponsor potluck suppers and other socials.  All events and activities of the group are open to the public.  Participating in SEO activities is a splendid, simple way to make congenial new friends who enjoy the outdoors.

The organization currently has about 300 members.  We scheduled eighty-seven events during calendar year 2019 for an average of 7 fun events per month.  We enjoy the outdoors in all seasons throughout the year.  Seventeen people on average have participated in each hike during the first four months of 2019.
