Linear Motion

This interactive kinetic sculpture is mounted outside the McWane Science Center’s IMAX Dome Theater. It was designed by Lloyd Cooper of Push Product Design annd fabricated by Advanced Manufacturing Systems in Decatur. It consists of 18 curved, reflective panels mounted on independetly-moving arms that are counterbalanced with pre-cast concrete blocks. It ways 9,000 pounds, and can be set into motion by stepping on lighted square panels set into the paving below. The reflective panels are curved to join visitors on the plaza with the city’s skyline.
