An advocate for women’s rights, Abigail Adams was one of America’s most important women; she was her husband John Adam’s most influential political counselor. Lacking in formal education, but possessing a superior intellect, she expressed her opinions about politics, religion and education and the place of women in the new America. Only in the last few decades has research, especially of the over 2000 letters she wrote and her grandson saved, shown us how astute a politician she was and how much she influenced not just her husband and family, but our country.
