BBR was the first bully breed specific rescue located in Alabama. We are a volunteer-run organization with members located across the state of Alabama.  We do not have one central location or a kennel.  We work with many different Alabama shelters to try and give pit bull type dogs who face medical challenges or discrimination based on appearance a chance at finding a home.  The pups who meet stringent behavioral criteria move directly from one of our shelter partners into a Bama Bully Rescue foster homes so that they do not have to spend even one additional minute in a shelter environment. We are proud of being foster-based. However, because we do not have a shelter we are unable to accept a dog into the rescue until we have a willing foster family.

The term “bully breed” encompasses a wide variety of dog breeds, but we focus on dogs that are “pit bull type dogs”. In general, these dogs share certain physical characteristics, including stocky bodies, broad heads, and smooth, short coats. Mixed-breed dogs with these physical traits are often called Pit Bulls. Our founders came together to advocate for their own dogs, who faced discrimination simply because of their appearance. Since 2008, Bama Bully Rescue has continued support bully breed owners, rescuers, and shelters.
