Woodlawn Community Table

Woodlawn Community Table partners with residents in the 35212 zip code to form sustainable low-income food cooperatives with the focus of healthy food options and relationship building to raise the social capital of its neighbors.

Members currently meet twice monthly and pool their time, energy, work and skills to sort and distribute a significant amount of groceries (an intended 2-week supply) among themselves.
Created in 2014, Woodlawn Community Table was formed by leaders and volunteers from Woodlawn United Methodist Church and other civic organizations in the area who envisioned transitioning a longtime neighborhood food pantry into a more relational food cooperative. The historic Woodlawn neighborhood is located on the east side of Birmingham, Alabama. Like many neighborhoods in the American South, Woodlawn experiences issues related to food insecurity and access like poverty, lack of a quality transportation system, unemployment, environmental concern, health problems and the overall rising costs of living.
